Paso Robles (Paso to those in the know) is best known for its world-class wines – but the same Mediterranean climate and fertile soils that encourage winegrapes to flourish make the region an oasis for agriculture – and for agritourism. Farmstead ED connects Paso producers with curious consumers, curating one-of-a-kind farm tours, workshops, and experiences.

Supporting Small Farms Through Education and Experience
Farmstead ED’s mission is twofold: to help people better understand how their food is grown and to build relationships between local producers and consumers. Farmstead Ed Founder Lynette Sonne explains, “We’re a bit of a marketing organization for the small family farms.”
SLO County Farm Trail: Your Digital Passport to the Central Coast
Inspired by Italian agritourism models, Farmstead ED developed the SLO County Farm Trail. Think of this as your digital passport and tour guide to farms, ranches and artisan operations throughout San Luis Obispo County.
The virtual, interactive map serves as a starting point, introducing visitors to Paso to some of the thriving local farms. The map provides interested agritourists with more information about each operation, along with contact details and links to each website, allowing them to visit desired destinations at their own pace.

Farm Tours and Experiences: Behind the Scenes at Local Farms
Some of the locations along the SLO County Farm Trail offer more in-depth farm tours and hands-on experiences. All tours and experiences are explained and linked on the Farmstead ED website. Experiences include private guided olive oil tastings at The Groves on 41, cheesemaking workshops at Giving Tree Family Farm and an introduction to the ins and outs of fungiculture at Mighty Cap Mushrooms. Lynette describes this as “the a la carte option”, making it easy for visitors to fit a farm tour into even the busiest itinerary.
Open Farm Days: A Celebration of Agri-CULTURE
Farmstead ED’s annual Open Farm Days is a three day celebration of local agriculture – or agri-CULTURE, a cheeky phrase coined but Farmstead ED that seems entirely appropriate. During Open Farm Days, dozens of local farms open their gates for an agritourism extravaganza featuring tours, tastings, demos and u-pick experiences.
